Hockey: 3ICE

I was offered the opportunity with Ross to direct the inaugural season of 3ICE through the summer of 2022. 3ICE was beginning it’s first season as a league, with a concept similar to PLL and BIG3 where teams traveled to a different venue each week throughout the season to compete against each other. In 3ICE’s case, the format was 3-on-3 hockey, with a mini-tournament between 6 teams each week. The million-dollar championship was a two hour event from Las Vegas that aired on CBS.

The new league gave us the opportunity to try a few new things you wouldn’t often see during a hockey game which was a camera operator live out on the ice during play, plus the ability to interview players and coaches during live play. Excerpts from that championship broadcast on CBS are above.

Broadcast included four hard cameras, one handheld, plus one wireless on-ice camera operator.

This continued for the summer of 2023 through multiple stops, before taking a haitus in 2024. The league returned with a paired down schedule in 2025 and the production took place via RPS’ DISTRO method. I was able to direct and technical direct the games while working from home, remoted into equipment in the truck in Fort Lauderdale.
